One of the most interesting parts of living in India is observing all the different ways festivals are celebrated throughout the year. Last week, one of my very favorite festivals, Krishna Janmashtami, was celebrated. In our Indian state, Maharashtra, people celebrate Lord Krishna’s birth by reenacting his childhood attempts to steal honey and curd from a pot. People form human pyramids to try and reach the pot that is suspended high in the air. There was a pot hung just outside our apartment and the kids and I went down hoping to catch some people attempting to reach it. The pot was so very high though, that by 8:30 no one had reached the top. Despite being a bit let down, the kids were entertained by the truckloads of people heading out to other spots in the city and the festive feeling in the city.
